Swiss watch brand Wyler Geneve, known for its timepieces with complex shock absorbing cases, has introduced a new limited edition chronograph which will commemorate the 2009 Dakar Rally in Buenos Aires.

Restricted to a series of 182 pieces--a number which is significant for being the exact number of participants in the first Dakar Rally in 1978--the Wyler Geneve Dakar Rally Tantalum Chronograph presents a distinctive black and tan color scheme which is suggestive of the earthy colors of desert terrain.  Wyler Geneve's intricate case construction, which places the movement inside a protective container supported by a carbon-resin frame, is made even more exclusive in this model by supportive plates crafted from rare tantalum.  Chronograph pushers and the crown protector are both machined from stainless steel.  A comprehensively applied black "diamond-like carbon" (DLC) coating lends a stealthy appearance which compliments the rubber strap and the sporty red accents on the dial.  '

The Wyler Geneve Dakar Rally Tantalum Chronograph is animated by an ETA automatic movement, which offers a date display in addition to a chronograph with 12-hour and 30-minute totalizers.  Balance frequency is 28,800 beats per hour, and power reserve is 42 hours.  A sapphire crystal exhibition back reveals the movement, along with its perforated central winding rotor in blackened heavy metal.  The sapphire window also bears the bold laser engraving "OFFICIAL WATCH OF THE DAKAR RALLY", the individual number of the watch, and the logo of the Dakar Rally.  

Wyler Geneve will supply each Dakar Rally Tantalum Chronograph with a luxurious folding presentation box in beige leather.  In addition to the compartment for the watch, the box features a drawer with a leather strap, tools that facilitate strap and buckle changes, and a USB stick with owner instructions for accomplishing both tasks.
